EmpowerHER: A Reflection on International Women’s Day Celebrations at KJR

Events

At KJR we have a strong female gender distribution, higher than the industry standard for technology. As a STEM-based industry provider, we understand the importance of building women’s expertise and experience, not just for their careers but in all aspects of their lives.

Gender parity is a cornerstone of our diversity efforts.

KJR team members were out and about across the states celebrating International Women’s Day……..

KJR’s Victorian Collective had the privilege of attending two distinct events: one hosted by AIIA and Australian Super, and the other by IPAA Victoria at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne. The latter featured insightful discussions led by prominent figures such as Amanda Stevens (CEO of IPAA Victoria), Danielle Wood (Chair, Productivity Commission), Dr. Morley Muse (Co-founder, iSTEM Co. and DEIR Board Director, Women in STEMM Australia), and Mansi Wagh (Manager, Economic Equality).

KJR consultant Shipra highlighted Dr. Morley’s impactful presence during the event: “Dr Morley was the big highlight for me – she described herself as ‘very real’. One of the big moments was when she talked about how the World Economic Forum projects are on track to have global gender equality in 131 years – and we’ll all be dead.

Shipra added: “For me, she was the pick of the guest speakers because of the way she was able to capture the audience with her authenticity and how she was also able to back it up with facts, figures & solutions. She was amazing to listen to! .

Gina Duportail and Tracey Nguyen from KJR’s VIC Collective

In addition to our VIC Collective’s participation, both male and female consultants across various offices joined in the celebrations with organisations like AIIA, the Queensland AI Hub, IBM, and Women in Agile.

KJR’s Queensland Collective had the opportunity to engage with leaders in artificial intelligence, including Stela Solar (Inaugural Director of Australia’s National AI Centre), Fei Tan (Telstra’s General Manager of Data and AI Solutions), and Craig Scroggie (CEO and Managing Director of NEXTDC), during an event organised by the Queensland AI Hub. This gathering fostered inclusivity and diversity within the AI community, inviting individuals from diverse backgrounds to contribute to its advancement.

Similarly, our ACT Collective participated in events hosted by AIIA and IBM, featuring keynote speaker Rachel Noble, Director-General of the Australian Signals Directorate. Noble shared her journey to ICT leadership from a woman’s perspective, offering insights and inspiration to all attendees.
