Early Inspiration Through Real-World Experience

At KJR, we believe innovation isn’t just about ideas or technologies: it’s about the people. Our commitment to forming a smarter, fairer future includes investing in the next generation of talent at an early stage. One example of such an investment in action is Niyati, a high school student who recently joined KJR for a unique and inspiring learning experience.

Immersed In The World of Tech

As part of the school’s work experience program, Niyati spent two weeks with our team in Melbourne, taking a dive into the world of digital innovation and ethical technology, and real-world problem-solving. Since day one, she was deeply immersed in the KJR culture- curious, collaborative and committed to making a positive impact.

Niyati explored areas such as software testing and digital transformation projects that are shaping Australia’s economy and beyond. We sat down with Niyati to talk about her overall experience with KJR:

My name is Niyati, and I go to Canterbury Girls Secondary College. I’m currently in Year 10. I had the incredible opportunity to complete my Year 10 work experience at KJR, and I’m so grateful to the entire team for making it such a welcoming experience.

Throughout the week, I was involved in a range of activities that gave me insight into the world of ICT consulting and innovation. I helped confirm and document the computer hardware used by KJR consultants, which involved emailing staff, gathering their feedback, and compiling the information. I also created the initial slides for a Katalon training course, reviewed episodes of KJR’s AI podcast to identify potential short clips, and worked with the innovation team to label images for AI training.

I’d like to say a big thank you to Gina, Renard, and Stan for involving me in their projects- from ICT audits to AI development. I learned so much from observing and contributing to their work, and I really appreciate the time and guidance they gave me. I’d also like to thank the other team members I had the pleasure of interacting with throughout the two weeks. This experience has been both eye-opening and motivating, and it’s made me even more excited about pursuing a future in technology.

What made you choose KJR for your work experience placement?

I chose KJR because I’m interested in technology and how it’s applied in the real world. I knew KJR focused on quality engineering and innovation, and I wanted to experience that environment firsthand to understand what working in tech could look like.

What was your favourite part of the placement?

My favourite part was getting to interact with the team and seeing how different departments collaborate on projects. It was exciting to be part of discussions around automation, AI tools, and testing processes, and I felt like I was getting insight into things that aren’t usually taught in school.

Did your experience at KJR change how you think about working in tech?

Yes, definitely. Before the placement, I mostly thought about tech in terms of coding and software development. But at KJR, I saw how broad the field really is. I haven’t considered my future career yet, but I know one of my options is technology.

What is a skill you gained from your time here?

One skill I gained is confidence in communicating within a professional environment. I learned how to ask the right questions, engage in conversations, and be a part of an environment completely different to school.

Was there a cool technology or tool you learned about during your placement?

Yes: learning about VDML (Validation Driven Machine Learning) and seeing how it can be used to model complex data systems visually was fascinating.

What did you find challenging?

Spending long hours at a desk was a shift from my usual routine, and it challenged me to adapt to a different kind of work environment than I was used to.

Inspiring Future Leaders

Supporting students like Niyati is a part of KJR’s broader vision and mission to create early pathways to the tech industry and build a more diverse, ethical, and future-ready workforce.
