KJR is proud to be Great Place to Work® Certified™, recognising a culture built on trust, expertise, and delivering quality where it matters most. From software testing and quality assurance to trusted AI Adoption and performance engineering, we help organisations de-risk technology, because trust is earned in both people and outcomes.

Great Place to Work® is a globally recognised authority on workplace culture. Being certified by Great Place To Work isn’t just an award, it reflects how our people experience KJR every day.

Achieving this certification is a reflection of who we are at our core. At KJR, our values - Human, Champion, Explorer and Truth Teller - aren’t just words; they shape how we show up for each other every day. We’ve built a culture where people feel respected, heard, and empowered, and that’s what truly makes KJR a great place to work.

At KJR, culture isn’t separate from performance, it’s what enables it. We believe that high-quality outcomes in software quality engineering and AI come from empowered, supported teams.

Built on Long-Term Trust

In an industry known for rapid change, longevity says everything. Some of our very first employees are still with us nearly three decades later, growing alongside the company since its earliest days.

From delivering KJR’s first-ever project to mentoring the next generation of consultants, their journey reflects something rare:

A workplace where people choose to stay, grow, and lead.

This is reinforced across the business, where the average tenure of our senior consultants exceeds six years, a testament to the strength of our culture and the depth of our expertise.

93% of employees at KJR say it is a great place to work compared to 60% of employees at a typical company in Australia.

KJR Values

At the heart of our Collective are the values that guide how we think, act, and deliver every day.

As Explorers, we stay curious, embracing new technologies and challenging the status quo to uncover better solutions.

As Truth Tellers, we lead with honesty and integrity, having open conversations that build trust with our clients and each other.

As Champions, we are resilient and committed, taking ownership of every challenge and seeing it through to the end.

And as Humans, we prioritise inclusivity, empathy, and connection, ensuring everyone feels valued and supported.

Together, these values shape a culture where people can do their best work and deliver meaningful outcomes.

Why This Matters for Our Clients

Trust doesn’t stop at our people, it extends to everything we deliver.

In a fast-paced IT industry, it’s easy to focus purely on delivery and outcomes, but at KJR, we’ve proven that strong culture and high performance go hand in hand. Being recognised as a Great Place to Work validates that we’re not only delivering impact for our clients, but also creating an environment where our people can thrive, grow and do their best work.

Our clients rely on us to ensure their technology is:

  • Reliable and resilient
  • Ethically designed and governed
  • Ready for real-world complexity

From software quality assurance to trusted AI adoption, testing AI systems, and DevOps enablement, we help organisations build confidence in their technology. Because when your systems matter, quality isn’t optional.

A Culture That Reflects the World We Build For

We believe better technology comes from diverse perspectives and inclusive thinking.

That’s why we actively invest in:

  • Supporting women in technology (partnerships with Women in Technology at QUT, Young Women Leaders in AI)
  • Contributing to Indigenous-led initiatives and partnerships (Salty Monkeys, The Indigenous Australian Datathon, Jarramali)
  • Supporting women in STEM through the ANUAFC x KJR Women’s Leadership Scholarship, building future leaders
  • Creating pathways for emerging talent and future leaders (Men of Business Academy, UQCS, Code Network, Radiant Life College)

This commitment strengthens both our culture and the solutions we deliver. To learn more about how we’re creating impact beyond our work, through partnerships, community initiatives, and technology for good, explore our community initiatives.

Coming into tech as a career changer, I bring with me a diverse set of transferable skills that have proven invaluable in my transition into Quality Assurance. I’ve learned that testing isn’t just about technical capability, it’s equally about communication, problem‑solving, critical thinking, and understanding how people and systems interact. These soft skills, combined with my growing technical toolkit, have enabled me to contribute meaningfully from day one.

Joining KJR has accelerated my growth in ways I didn’t expect. The culture of support, curiosity, and collaboration has helped me build confidence as I navigate increasingly complex projects. Every challenge has become an opportunity to learn, and every success has been shared with peers who genuinely invest in each other’s development.

What projects have you worked on so far?

I’ve had the opportunity to work across a wide range of projects, each offering a different perspective on QA and technology. These include:

  • HRIS Workday Implementation
Supporting testing activities during the rollout of Workday across HR processes.
  • E5 License Upgrade
Ensuring smooth transition and system reliability during the platform upgrade.
  • Sample Management System (Envirosys)
Contributing to quality assurance for enhancements and data-handling workflows.
  • Internal AI Projects
Participating in the development and testing of multiple machine learning models, including:
    • context‑recognition models
    • personal protective equipment (PPE) detection
    • marine debris recognition

Each project has given me a deeper understanding of how technology supports real-world operations and how QA ensures robustness and trust in those systems.

What skills have you developed?

Testing has shown me that QA is essentially a project within a project. Through my work, I’ve built skills in:

  • Project management: planning test phases, managing timelines, and coordinating with stakeholders.
  • Communication: translating technical findings into meaningful insights and facilitating alignment across teams.
  • AI fundamentals: understanding principles behind machine learning models and how to evaluate their performance.
  • Automation: developing hands‑on capability with automation tools and frameworks to improve efficiency and repeatability.

These skills, combined with my transferable strengths from past roles, have formed a strong foundation for my career in tech.

What’s your favourite part about working for KJR?

The best part about working at KJR is the supportive culture. My peers and senior colleagues have been incredibly generous with their time, knowledge, and encouragement. Whether I’m tackling a new testing challenge, exploring automation, or diving into machine learning concepts, I’ve always felt backed by a team who genuinely wants me to succeed.

What advice would you give other tech graduates?

Your soft skills are just as valuable as your technical skills, sometimes even more so. Curiosity, communication, adaptability, and the ability to collaborate effectively will set you apart as much as your technical capabilities. Tech evolves quickly, so focus on being someone who can learn, connect, and contribute across different contexts. The rest will follow.

– Chairman

The man who started it all – Kelvin John Ross is KJR’s founder. Over 22 years ago, Kelvin had completed his PhD in safety critical systems engineering and was ready to have a crack at the “crazy entrepreneurial ideas” in his head. As the world approached the uncertainty of Y2K, KJR emerged and Kelvin’s life was never the same.

When it comes to KJR, Kelvin believes that “like an artist, the painting is never complete”. He is constantly examining the changing world and working with the Collective to keep KJR relevant and of value to clients. In 2020 alone, Kelvin has been deeply involved in the launch of both Queensland AI Hub – connecting Queensland’s AI ecosystem, and Datarwe – real World Data for AI enabled medical innovation, acting as Director and CTO respectively. And in recent years, Kelvin has helped to set-up IntelliHQ, a non-profit developing the ecosystem for AI innovation in healthcare where he remains a Director, is also a Director at AIkademi (The AI Academy), and co-founded the Young Women Leaders in AI program, which encourages and facilitates the development of Australia’s next generation of brilliant female minds.
