Curious about your organisation’s digital maturity?

Article Digital Maturity

Since the launch of the value-centric Digital Maturity Model and benchmarking questionnaire in March this year, KJR has been working with partners and peers to educate people from a range of industries and roles on the importance of understanding organisational digital maturity and how they can assess, articulate and act to address their potential shortcomings.

Six months down the track, we’re taking this opportunity to share a taste of the conversations we’ve been involved in. From podcast to paper there have been some intriguing topics stemming from the model…

The Digital Week – a podcast from QUT’s Chair in Digital Economy

Professor Marek Kowalkiewicz and Dr Mark Pedersen, CTO of KJR discuss Digital Maturity with Oliver Bolton. This 16- minute session includes musings on ‘unconscious incompetence’ and asks the question ‘can an organisation be too digitally mature?’

Aligning IT capability with confidence

While Australian businesses are quick to talk up the benefits of embracing digital transformation, they’re slow to put in the hard work required to align their digital strategy from the boardroom right down to the server room.

Up to 85 per cent of IT projects ran over-time, over-budget or failed to deliver on their objectives last year, according to MinterEllison research.

Some compelling stats? We think so. That’s why we felt it was important to feature our ‘why’ of the Digital Maturity Model with the AFR recently. From board structure to agile adoption, KJR’s CEO, Ashley Howden speaks candidly on the issues facing Australian organisations and their digital transformation activity.

Three Dimensions of Digital

Digital maturity is an important part of a bigger picture. We joined our report partners, QUT’s Chair in Digital Economy at an event that took onboard perspectives from three dimensions (of digital): maturity, confidence and ecosystems. With a panel of experts in each dimension, including KJR’s Dr Mark for maturity, the conversations presented clear evidence as to the importance of each.

Getting personal about digital maturity

The development of the Digital Maturity Model has been a personal mission for a number of people. With a key role in the realisation of the model, Dr Mark took a moment to explore and reflect upon how his career journey has influenced his perspective and why others should consider taking digital maturity personally.

So, what’s next?

KJR will be utilising the benchmark report and questionnaire to drive two initiatives:

Help our clients better design and execute their digital transformation programs.

Develop a national Digital Maturity Benchmark that will demonstrate and guide action on the state of Australia’s organisational digital maturity and readiness for digital transformation.

The Digital Maturity Benchmark questionnaire is available online for anyone to complete. KJR also offer facilitated sessions to guide individuals or teams through the process and assist in digesting the outcomes (this is, of course, our recommended action). Get in touch.
