2023 KJR Co-op

After a much-anticipated wait, the KJR Collective met back on the Gold Coast for the company’s annual collaborative Co-op. The 2023 edition boasted a jam-packed agenda packaged in a star-sprinkled theme that was galactically epic! From strong collaboration to connection and clone troopers, the 2023 KJR Co-op had it all and was definitely one for the books, or perhaps the movies.

Kicking off with a presentation from our founder Dr Kelvin Ross, the Collective was congratulated on a successful year and acknowledged for our excellence in striving towards the company’s mission, vision and purpose. Sessions presented by our Chief Financial Officer Lyndon Cawood, General Managers Anil Kumar (VIC), Andrew Hammond (ACT), Graham Cummins (QLD) and our Talent and Culture Manager Sheemal Visun also supported the positive sentiment.

Similarly, to previous years the day’s event featured a soft skills workshop focused on a growth mindset that teams were able to apply to the technical activity ran across the day. Teams were split into houses named after popular Star Wars characters (Princess Leia, Han Solo, Yoda and Darth Vader) and worked together to explore technological solutions to a list of challenges that may arise at the upcoming 2032 Brisbane Olympics, in a simulation-type activity.

We invited our technological partners back to assist our consultants with this task. Equipped with domain expertise Open Text, Datarwe, Smart AI Connect, FlyFreely, Maxus AI and West Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation consulted on capabilities and scope in which teams pitched KJR as the best fit to deliver these solutions.

A night out of this world

Night celebrations commenced shortly after and the Collective [imperially] marched to the party’s Star Wars theme!

Answering the Queensland team’s performance last year KJR Victoria rebutted with an equally impressive dance act and opened the floor to the rest of the company who joined for a Collective boogie.

Kudos To You!

A Co-op crowd pleaser, we presented the KJR Kudos Awards to four individuals who were identified as ambassadors of the KJR Champion, Explorer, Human and Truth-teller values.

Each year the KJR Collective nominates their peers who embody the KJR way of working. Congratulations to the 2023 award winners Archana Menon as Truth-Teller, Jasmine Grujovski as Champion, Prajakta Shrotri as Human (photographed below) and Andrew Woodall as Explorer.

Celebrating Excellence

Rounding off the night’s ceremony we celebrated the dedicated service of several Collective members across the country. 25 years was acknowledged for employees 1, 2 and 3 and KJR’s Chief Technology Officer Dr Mark Pedersen (photographed above) accepted his award as well as Principal Consultants Dr Steven Butler and Dr John D’Alton’s awards. Kelvin Ross also shared a touching passage on their equal tenure with the company’s establishment.

The recognition didn’t stop there! All Collective members celebrating 5, 10, 15 and 20 years were welcomed on stage for deserved applause.

Drones, VR and a murderous mystery

After a jam-packed Friday, the crew and our partners got together for an array of team-building activities. Virtual Reality free roam, a delectable murder mystery party and drone flying were the Collective’s activities of choice and teams collaborated to solve puzzles and/or perfect a new skill all while learning a new area of technology.

Collective Co-op

The KJR Co-op is an annual whole-company workshop that focuses on targeted skills development and collaboration. This once-a-year event is where the national KJR collective connects in one room and takes part in a weekend of training, networking and fun collaboration.

KJR’s Co-ops have been held in Melbourne and on the Gold Coast. One thing is for sure, no matter where we meet it’s always a great time! The magic of the Co-op is the connections and friendships made and what stood out over the event was the way so many of our Collective members were willing to have a go, get involved and make memories.
