KJR’s Trailblazing Presence at the Tropical Innovation Festival: Embracing Indigenous and Healthcare Innovation

Events Innovation
For the second year in a row, KJR participated in the Tropical Innovation Festival, held in Cairns from June 5th to June 9th, 2023. Every year, the festival showcases cutting-edge innovation and meaningful collaborations in the realm of technology and innovation. It was a busy week for KJR who hosted and presented multiple sessions.
Deep Dive into Indigenous Innovation
KJR sponsored and provided expert input at the festival’s first-ever “Deep Dive into Indigenous Innovation” session, teaming up with Deadly Innovation (Advance Queensland). The session brought together forward-thinking Indigenous Innovators, Entrepreneurs, and non-Indigenous business leaders to explore the realm of Indigenous Innovation and Business.

During the session, KJR Founder Dr Kelvin Ross and ACT General Manager Andrew Hammond delved into the application of digital technology for Indigenous innovation alongside Duncan Kerslake, Vernon Ah Kee, and shared success stories from Indigenous tourism with Fraser Nai. KJR has a strong history of partnering with Indigenous Innovators and Communities to leverage digital technology in Indigenous innovations. Initiatives like the Jarramali Cultural Tech Tours, Rock Art Data Capture, and the Indigenous Australian Datathon exemplify our commitment. They showcase KJR’s efforts to leverage digital technology for cultural preservation, economic growth, and social development within Indigenous communities.

Healthcare Advancements and the Future of Data
Kelvin Ross and Andrew Hammond led the “Technology and Innovation Advancing Healthcare” session earlier in the week of the festival. Andrew Hammond’s thought-provoking presentation on “The Future of Data” highlighted three key points that reflect the growing importance of data in our lives:
  • Data is only going to get bigger and more diverse: as technology continues to advance, the volume and variety of data will skyrocket. Harnessing and making sense of this massive influx of information will be pivotal in shaping various sectors, including healthcare.
  • Our Trust in Data and language/communications will be tested: with the advent of conversational entities like ChatGPT, human-like interactions with technology are becoming increasingly common. The ethical implications of these interactions and maintaining trust in data and communications will be essential considerations.
  • Continual Learning is essential to understanding and using data: as the landscape evolves, staying informed and adaptable will be critical for individuals and organisations aiming to effectively utilise data.
On the same day, Dr. Kelvin Ross delivered a presentation centered on big data analytics and AI applications in healthcare. His talk emphasised the groundbreaking work undertaken at Datarwe with their Data Nexus platform, where KJR plays a significant role in providing services related to data quality, governance, and assurance.

He reinforced the importance of harnessing the power of innovation to address the evolving challenges in the healthcare industry. With the advent of digital technologies, data-driven solutions, and AI-powered systems, there are unprecedented opportunities to make significant strides in medical research, diagnosis, and treatment. Quality assurance and data quality are crucial elements for ensuring the successful implementation of AI and machine learning technologies in healthcare.
The Tropical Innovation Festival stands as a testament to the positive impact that can be achieved when innovation, technology, and community collaboration converge. It was a real pleasure to participate this year again. We remain constantly inspired and amazed by the remarkable individuals and businesses driving innovation and positive transformation in the Australian business landscape. KJR is looking forward to the next edition!
