Event Wrap: KJR Co-op 2022

Events The Collective

After two years of remote dial ins and virtual team meetings the KJR Collective connected [face-to-face!] on the Gold Coast, for our annual internal KJR Co-op over the weekend.

New faces, as well as familiar gathered on the Gold Coast to share, collaborate and celebrate the incredible work in tech currently being completed across the Collective and make valuable connections within the wider team.

Kicking off with a presentation from our founder Dr Kelvin Ross (and honorary Elvis), the Collective were brought closer by the KJR values, mission and vision we represent daily and share in manner. Encouraging us all to strive in confidence and together towards our purpose of shaping digital technologies for confident and positive transformation of platforms that benefit the community.

We also shouted out to a couple of our consultants who demonstrated strongly the KJR values over the past year. Congratulations to Dylan Prendergast who won Kudos award for showcasing the value of Explorer, Steve Casa as Truth-Teller, Mary Ann Cubio as Champion and Mark Pedersen as Human.

Of course all KJR Co-ops include a strong technical component, which was delivered through a data labelling and machine-learning model training activity facilitated by our partners at Maxus AI for the 2022 event. The crew learnt the ins and outs of data quality for assuring ai-ml models and worked with a range of data sets collected through various KJR projects. Including Jarramali Rock Art imagery, KJR Christmas lights/pedestrian data and our sister company Datarwe’s ICU medical data.

A first for the KJR Co-op we invited our technology and industry partners to present at a Technical Expo, where they demonstrated some of their current platforms, and projects completed in partnership with our team. Supported by the Collective who mentioned it was a great addition and was valuable to be exposed to different and innovative tech industries. We thank all our partners who joined us on the day- Flyfreely, Emesent, SecureStack, Athena AI, Maxus AI, Smart AI Connect, iPro, Fatigue M8, Jarramali Rock Art Tours, Datarwe and the Western Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation.

“It was a great addition that gave insights to some of the projects KJR is supporting and working on”.

Rounding off the day we celebrated 25 years in tech for the company which circled back to the growth and evolution of the team and the brand presented throughout the event. CTO Mark Pedersen and Principal Consultants Steven Butler as well John D’Alton (by remote dial in) joined Kelvin Ross for a heartfelt moment that has us primed and ready for the 25th Birthday celebrations later this year.

Celebrations began shortly after and the team fully embraced the theme of Surviving the AI Apocalypse. We even got a surprise performance from our Queensland Collective that rejoiced the cultural diversity across the company.

The magic of the Co-op is the connections and friendships made and what stood out over event was the way so many of our Collective were willing to have a go, get involved and make memories. We can’t wait to start planning the next one- bring on 2023!
